Mum emailed me today and mentioned she always thought of San Francisco with Jeanette Mc Donald and Clark Gable as a picture she never forgot. Everywhere you go you can think of a song, 'San ...fran...cisco' 'LA International Air-port..'. We were driving through Hollywood yesterday down Santa Monica Blvd and I was singing Sheryl Crow's 'All I wanna do'.............'as the sun comes up over Santa Monica Boulevard.....'.
ANyway, just a quick note, i'll add to this later. Hollywood was fun. We stayed on Sunset Blvd at the Grafton Hotel. A funked up old girl with the usual deco elements.
The highlight was our night out at the Saddle Ranch Bar. A large barn with Lotuses and Lambourghinis parked out side and a bull ride machine in. We were sitting there watching the silly girls riding this thing in tiny shorts and blonde hair. Somehow we got talking to the two guys next to us and of course, they were Australian. Not only that, the father knows my nephew Ben, as he sells high performance transmissions and advertises in Street Commodore. Can;t go anywhere!!!
Well, while we were talking to them, a buzz developed as everyone was realising that the Hef had arrived! Yep, Hugh Hefner came into this quality establishment surrounded by his 'bunnies' and one BIG guy. Poor Hef looks a little worn out now, small and diminished, but he clapped gleefully when the bull driver made the machine vibrate with the girls on it. I was wishing Miss Julie was there to make me go over and sit on his lap for a photo op! ha ha. They stayed for quite a while and seemed to be regular visitors. Next thing, Dr Phil was standing just there near us....wow, this is a popular place! His BIG guy, a rasta looking fellow, was pro-active in detering people photographing the big Phil. I think Tim got one of him tho.
Gotta go, catching a flight to NY. Sorry.
Postscript: the top photo is our room at the Grafton, the next is this mad Australian woman (the brunette!) who couldn't keep her hands off me, ha, of course, she was drunk as the proverbial. Next is Dr Phil, then Hef (I know it doesn't look like him but it 's him in the black hat). The expensive toys at the Saddle Ranch.
Celebs celebs what next? Fancy going everywhere with bodyguards. Also isn't it amazing how one meets people who know someone you know on the other side of the world. meeting someone. I would have benlike Julie but pity it was'Hef' and not Brad or Johnny Depp or di Caprio I could go on Mazza
ReplyDeleteNice one! I LOVED Hollywood and Sunset the whole Sunset Blvd area. West Hollywood etc.
ReplyDeleteDid you go driving through the Mullholland/Hills area? Bel Air? It's all pretty trippy. The huge houses and tree lined streets, beautiful people jogging or walking dogs etc.
Have you seen how they build houses and buildings over there yet? Different to Aus. All flexible timber frames with stuco exteriors so they flex and move with 'quakes. Very little in the way of real brick buildings in LA; although Santa Monica and Venice seemed to have a few left.
